Wet Crawl Spaces
Wet Crawl Spaces
Crawl space waterproofing is as important to your home as basement water proofing. Water intrusion can damage a crawlspace in the same way that it can damage a basement.
There are several ways that water can damage and cause your wet crawlspace:
Because concrete is porous, water can bleed into and remain in the interior of concrete blocks slowly eroding the strength of the blocks.
Water trapped inside cement blocks can expand and contract with temperature changes, exerting pressure on the blocks that may cause cracks resulting in water leakage and eventual structural damage.
Constant exposure to water results in damage to wood framing in wet crawl spaces.
Soggy soil provides a poor base for support beams. Over time, the extreme weight that sits on these structures in water damaged wet crawl spaces can result in twisting, bowing and, ultimately, compromised support.
Small animals, insects (such as termites), etc. are drawn to the environment of a wet crawl space, leading to structural damage as well as possible health and safety concerns.
